Happy Valentines Day!
Today, we find hearts all over – pink and red, symbolizing love and affection.
But our heart provides so much more as well – it is life giving, both literally and figuratively.
This heart is the center, the core, of our being. This heart helps us to face our challenges and gives us the opportunity to become a better person each and every day.
What does this heart need to thrive? Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa provides the following answer (straight text below the picture):
“There’s no such thing as a painless lesson, they just don’t exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can’t gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you will find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah, a heart made Fullmetal.”
We are strengthened by our struggles; they are entwined into the fabric of our being, reinforcing it like rebar in concrete. Without this support, the concrete would crumble away, useless.
And so, our heart needs our endurance, gathering what strength we have to move forward, to accept the lessons that pain teaches us, and grow into something even more powerful than it was before.
A heart made FullMetal – ready to accomplish anything, stop at nothing, and create the future they want.
